Kangaroo Express Raises More Than $453K to ‘Give Kids The World’

Funds will allow children with life-threatening illnesses to enjoy a weeklong fantasy vacation

Online PR News – 25-April-2013 – Cary/NC – Cary, N.C., April 22, 2013 – Kangaroo Express, the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, operated by The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTRY), today announced that its Florida and select Georgia and South Carolina stores have raised more than $453,000 for Give Kids The World Village (GKTW), a 70-acre, non-profit "storybook" village in Central Florida that provides cost-free, weeklong vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

“Kangaroo Express’ continued support of Give Kids The World has helped deliver dream vacations to kids and parents who need it most,” said GKTW President Pamela Landwirth. “The generous donations of Kangaroo Express and its customers will help GKTW continue fulfilling its mission to provide happiness that inspires hope for children battling a life-threatening illness.”

Over the past four weeks, guests could donate to GKTW at any of the almost 570 participating Florida, Georgia and South Carolina Kangaroo Express convenience stores by purchasing a $1 or $5 pin up to hang in the store, or by donating their change at the register.

Since October 2011, Kangaroo Express has helped raise more than $1 million for GKTW, allowing more than 195 children and their families to enjoy a magical vacation.

“For the past three years, our guests and associates have embraced the opportunity to help Give Kids The World create unforgettable memories for children and families who need it most,” said Paul Moody, division vice president, Kangaroo Express. “It is their passion and commitment to our local communities that’s allowed us to pass the remarkable milestone of $1 million.”

Every year, GKTW fulfills the wishes of more than 7,000 children with life-threatening illnesses from around the world whose one desire is to visit the theme parks of Central Florida. While staying at the whimsical GKTW ‘Village’, these children and their families learn that dreams really do come true as they are immersed in joy, hope and nonstop fun for a few unforgettably happy days.
