Online PR News – 22-May-2010 – – Alderbury sportsman Joe Coombs has made another significant step forward in his ambition to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics by securing selection for the Under 23 GB Squad.

The GB senior and Under 23 canoe slalom selection races took place between 1st - 3rd May in Nottingham and Joe secured selection for the Under 23 squad and only narrowly missed out on selection for the senior squad as well.

Joe, who is sponsored by Trethowans Solicitors Salisbury, commented on his achievement; “After some tight racing, I am thrilled with my results at the weekend, I can't wait to build on last year’s junior achievements and I am really looking forward to racing at the Under 23 European Championships this summer.”

First on the calendar for Joe is a trip to Slovenia at the beginning of June to compete in the European Championships, followed by the World Championships in September.

Trethowans Managing Partner Simon Rhodes said; “This is a fantastic achievement for Joe, and with two years to go until London 2012 it means he is on target to realise his ambition of competing in the Olympics. We are delighted that we have been able to support Joe for the past 4 years with sponsorship, helping with his training, travel and equipment costs. We will continue to support Joe right through until the Olympics. “

Joe has very much become part of the ‘Trethowans Team’; he officially opened the new London Road office in July 2008, he’s been back since to update us on his progress, he’s about to run a ‘canoe taster’ session for Trethowans contacts and staff to help more people have the opportunity to try out canoeing. Later this year, Joe will be doing some work experience at Trethowans.
