The most fuel-efficient Nissan Pathfinder is now a Hybrid with the same comfort and roominess.
Online PR News – 12-April-2013 – Beckley, WV – The Nissan Pathfinder has been known as the perfect family adventure vehicle. Now the Pathfinder Hybrid meshes green technology and comfortable sweating for seven while still having a 3,500-pound towing capacity, when properly equipped.
There are some changes for the Hybrid version. For example it will no longer have a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine. Instead it will be replaced by a supercharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor paired with a compact Lithium-ion battery. The electric motor is 15 kW and together with the gas engine they provide a performance that is not much different than the conventional pathfinder. Together they produce 250 net horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque.
The Pathfinder Hybrid uses the Nissan Intelligent Dual Clutch System which manages power from both the electric motor and gas engine. This is a one motor two clutch parallel system. The motor is in between the gasoline engine and the next-gen Xtronic CVT and functions as a generator by conveying deceleration force from the CVT to the battery. One clutch is positioned between the gasoline engine and the electric motor, while the other is within the CVT.
The Hybrid has an estimated fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon combined, which is a twenty-four percent increase over the standard Pathfinder. The city fuel economy is 25 miles per gallon while highway mileage is estimated at 27 miles per gallon. One of the nice features about the Hybrid model is that it keeps the same 19.5-gallon fuel tank and has an estimated driving range at more than 526 miles. Of course, these are all estimated figures and actual mileage will vary.
Besides the hybrid powertrain and the LED taillights, the 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid is just the fourth-generation Pathfinder. It still offers an attractive and aerodynamic exterior with the same head room and cargo capacity. It has the rugged adventure look for the exterior, but the interior remains spacious and comfortable.
The instrument panel includes Advanced Drive-Assist Display in the center of the instrument cluster, right in front of the driver. The Hybrid has an easy-to-read 4.2-inch color monitor that shows power flow readings from the electric motor and gasoline engine. Nissan Navigation System with NavTraffic and NavWeather is available.
