In conjunction with April Sexual Assault Awareness Month, SHIELD Women's Self Defense is conducting FREE self defense class for women and girls, sponsored by City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women.
Online PR News – 12-April-2013 – Glendale, CA – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We see rape in the news this year, nearly every day. This is the month to speak out with even greater urgency to honor survivors and prevent sexual violence.
We all heard the disturbing statistics: 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lifetimes. That’s 18 million women in this country who have been raped, and more than 1 million rapes that occur every year. The vast majority of these assaults occur when the victims are under the age of 25, and those under the age of 18 are at the greatest risk. These numbers are real, but they don’t tell the whole story. They don’t tell effect of rape. They don’t tell about the suicidal feelings, the depression, or of the PTSD that survivors of sexual assault experience. And, they don’t tell of the courage survivors demonstrate when they work every day to put their lives back together.
SHIELD Women’s Self Defense will be providing FREE self defense class for women and girls in the community, sponsored by City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women.
April 10, 2013 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm
At Glendale Community College - Student Center Conference Room (SC212)
