Renosol introduces plastisol compounding in Bay City, Michigan

Plastisol compounding capability has been added to Renosol Corporation's Bay City, Michigan, manufacturing plant.

Online PR News – 21-May-2010 – – Renosol Corporation has added plastisol compounding capability to its Bay City, Michigan, manufacturing site. The move brings production capabilities closer to key Renosol customers. Renosol completed the move the second week of May.

Plastisol is a liquid plastic commonly used in molding and dipping applications. Because of plastisol’s durability, resistance to oil and water, and ability to retain its color and appearance, many manufacturers use it to make consumer products that must be tough: tool grips, gaskets, caps and plugs, vehicle armrests, floor mats, outdoor furniture coatings and toys.

Plastisol is made by combining PVC with a softening agent or plasticizer, as well as additives that contribute desirable qualities such as softness, heat and light stability, or color.

Automotive color matching
Renosol is an established provider of OEM approved, exact color matching for automotive interiors. Many other consumer products, from furniture to toys, also require brilliant, lasting color; and for products that may get scratched or dented, plastisol is a clear preference because it is the same color throughout.

Renosol company background
Renosol’s manufacturing site in Bay City, Michigan, houses specialty polyurethane foam manufacturing and molded dunnage in addition to its new plastisol compounding operation. Founded in 1981, Renosol Corporation was the first to introduce a non-CFC, non-HCFC integral skin polyurethane formulation in the United States. In 2007, Renosol – in collaboration with the United Soybean Board New Uses Committee, Urethane Soy Systems Company, Bayer Corporation, Lear Corporation and Ford Motor Company’s Research and Innovation Center – developed an automotive seating formulation based on soy oil. This seating formulation was introduced in the highly publicized 2008 Mustang.
