Have you got what it takes to step into the ring with this man? If the answer’s ‘Yes’ then you could be the winner of the UK’s first ever Cage Fighter Idol competition.
Online PR News – 20-May-2010 – – Professional fighter Jimmy Wallhead is one of a dozen Mixed Martial Arts champions who’ll be slugging it out at the Cage Warriors ‘Right to Fight’ event on May 22 at Birmingham’s NEC.
Now, for the first time, promoters are offering a place on the bill to one lucky member of the public.
Anyone brave (or mad) enough to enter has until Friday to contact the promoters Cage Warriors Ltd.
They will need to email over a pic and explain why they’d like to enter. If shortlisted they will be invited to a training session and assessed to make sure they are fit enough to take part in the event which is expected to attract a thousand strong crowd.
One lucky winner will get the chance to compete with a leading fighter – the opponent will be chosen according to the winner’s weight and sex – women are welcome to enter and professional female fighters will be part of the bill.
If the winner impresses on the night then they will be invited to attend further bouts and could have a shot at turning pro.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is now the world’s fastest growing sport with its rise in the UK aided by the popularity of Alex Reid, husband of Katie Price.
As well as Jimmy Wallhead other potential opponents for the competition winner include Mikey Gomez, a six foot Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt and former USA middleweight champion.
A Cage Warriors spokesman said previous fighting experience was not essential, but entrants should have plenty of guts and determination.
He said: “It’s a bit like a fighting X-factor. We’re hoping to give a total unknown the chance to show what they can do in front of a huge audience.
“For the right fighter the sky’s the limit. If we find someone who has what it takes they could go all the way to the top.
“As Brits we always root for the underdog and whoever wins the competition will get tremendous support from the thousand strong Birmingham crowd.”
The spokesman also warned that the MMA champion won’t go easy on their amateur challenger.
He said: “We’re expecting lots of interest in this unique opportunity and all the entrants need to know what they’re letting themselves in for. They’ll be challenging one of the world’s best fighters and for the winner it’ll be the most terrifying moment of their life.
“Top MMA fighters train everyday and hate to lose - this fight will be no exception.”
