Young app-preneurs inspire national competition to unleash children's enterprising spirit

Inspired by two young entrepreneurs aged 9 and 11, a leading greeting card company has launched two exciting competitions to encourage children to gain some valuable business experience and see their enterprising ideas come to life.

Online PR News – 08-April-2013 – Hemel Hempstead, UK – The competitions
Kidz Kardz, who produce a unique range of ‘colour-in’ keepsake greeting cards, is inviting children aged under 16 to design a distinctive birthday card to go on general sale on the UK high street. The second competition involves children aged under 16 creating and filming a 15 second advertisement to be used as one of the firm’s promotional advertisements.

The inspiration
The idea for the competitions has been inspired by Jack Handley aged 11 and his sister Lucy aged 9 from Belper, Derbyshire, who launched their first app ‘Mooey’s Flight Adventure’ in November last year. Five months on the youngsters are really going places including:

Signing their first licensing agreement with Kidz Kardz to sell a range of Mooey and his mates greeting cards

Presenting to 150 head teachers alongside Apprentice Finalist Claire Young

Launching a Mooey and his mates summer holiday diary keepsake

Commenting on the launch of the competitions, Managing Director of Kidz Kardz Tina Hammett said:

“Having worked with and been inspired by the enthusiasm of Jack and Lucy to get their business idea out into the general marketplace, we are extremely keen to discover and support the wealth of talent and undoubted enterprising spirit amongst youngsters in the UK today, and to provide them with a platform to test their ideas in the real world. If we can harness some entrepreneurial spirit for the future and inspire the next generation of innovators along the way, then we will be very proud indeed.”

Enterprising kids
Author of ‘Enterprising Child’ book Lorraine Allman, who is supporting the Kidz Kardz competitions with copies of the book and mentoring says “this is a fantastic opportunity to not just tap into children’s natural creativity but to work with a leading company to get their results out on the high street and learn about the world of business.”

Both competitions are open to enter at the Kidz Kardz web site until 4th May 2013.
