Recently, global safety rating results proved that Volvo is leading the way when it comes to car safety.
Online PR News – 06-April-2013 – Cleveland, OH – Volvo has always made safety a top priority when it comes to making cars. They believe that nothing is more important than the well being of drivers and passengers of Volvos. The company has a vision that within the next decade, no person should be killed or seriously injured while in a new Volvo. That vision is beginning to show more than ever with all of Volvo’s recent safety accomplishments.
"Several studies have documented that our collision-avoiding systems lead to significant accident reductions in real-life traffic. By continuously introducing new preventive and protective systems, we keep moving towards our aim that by 2020 no one should be injured or killed in a new Volvo," says Lotta Jakobsson Senior Technical Specialist Safety at Volvo Cars Safety Centre. .
Over the past 12 months, Volvo has earned top ratings in many different areas for numerous vehicles.
The Volvo V40 received a five star Euro NCAP rating, and was also named Best in Class Cars of 2012 in the Small Family Class. This was the best rating ever recorded by a Volvo by the institute.
The Australasian New Car Assessment Program was also impressed by the Volvo V40, giving them a 5 star rating. The ANCAP called the V40 a “stand out performer” in the ratings.
The 2013 Volvo S60 and XC60 were both named Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn this rating, the cars had to earn a score of Good (the best possible score) in 4 out of 5 crash tests, as well as no less than Acceptable in the 5th, small overlap test, which is the toughest of the crash tests.
Volvo’s V60 Plug-in Hybrid received the highest score ever for an electrified car by the Euro NCAP. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid received a 5 star rating, which showed that the Plug-in Hybrid had the same level of safety as the standard V60.
The Volvo S60 became the first car to receive a 5 star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The S60 was also the only car that received 5 stars in all three crash tests performed; frontal, side pole and side barrier.
"Viewed together, all the top ratings during the past year emphasize our world-leading position in automotive safety. We are very proud to offer consumers some of the world's safest cars," says Prof. Lotta Jakobsson.
More recently at the Geneva Motor Show, Volvo presented another first for car safety with the Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection. This safety feature has the ability to detect and automatically apply the brakes when a pedestrian/cyclist swerves in front of the car.
