Justin Helwege, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks - now starting for the Colorado Ice, leads all Indoor Football League (IFL) receivers scoring 12 touchdowns in the first 5 games and converting an astonishing 53% of his catches into scores.
Online PR News – 04-April-2013 – Fort Collins, CO – Justin Helwege, one of last year’s early signings at wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks and a 2013 standout for the Colorado Ice IFL team, is posting league-leading numbers in his rookie year.
Over the first 5 weeks of the IFL season, the rookie 6' 6" 222 lb. pass catching phenom has led the league in touchdown receptions virtually every week and now has 12 touchdown receptions going into the bye week. Not only does Helwege have the most touchdown receptions, he’s taken over 50% of his catches into the opponent’s end-zone for scores.
“First, I focus on running the route and getting open - then securing the ball. After that, it’s all about powering in for six points,” said Helwege. “Having a quarterback like Willie (Copeland) throw me touchdown strikes is great, but the most important thing is team wins. Being 4-1 and leading our Conference is what I care about.”
The Colorado Ice including Helwege will return to the Budweiser Event Center on Saturday, April 13 to face the Nebraska Danger. In the last meeting with the Danger, Copeland and Helwege connected for four touchdowns, but the Ice suffered their only season loss.
