Two Rolling Hills Prep students are awarded national recognition.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Alliance for Young Artists and Writers will present awards at Carnegie Hall in NYC.

Online PR News – 04-April-2013 – San Pedro, CA – San Pedro, California------April 2, 2013------ Rolling Hills Prep School (RHP) is proud to announce that two students have earned national recognition by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The organization recently announced their National Winners, and RHP received word that two students, Senior Vivian Lee of Torrance (won a national Silver Award) and Junior Rafaella Barbosa of Redondo Beach (won a Gold Award). Their art pieces are attached.
Both girls were recognized at the regional level, before advancing to the national stage. The RHP students can now add “National Medalists”, to their list of high school achievements. Vivian and Rafaella will be feted at a prestigious Carnegie Hall ceremony and have their work showcased in reputable galleries in New York City.

Deborah Gelbart, the Chair for the Fine Arts department at Rolling Hills Prep stated: “Vivian Lee and Rafaella Barbosa are outstanding students who reach for the stars. At RHP, we’ve been well-acquainted with their talent for some time now. We are pleased that they have been recognized on a national level with these prestigious awards.”

Vivian and Rafaella join a prestigious list of previous award winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates. Judges look for works that best exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal voice or vision. Gold awards are described as the “most outstanding student works in the nation.”
