Shawn Mulchay leads charge of local graduates building businesses
Online PR News – 01-April-2013 – Camarillo, Calif. – (CAMARILLO, Calif.) – Shawn Mulchay never let his youth get in the way of success. The 27-year-old CSU Channel Islands graduate may possibly be the youngest, most ambitious aspiring executive in Ventura County.
As chief operating officer of Brendan’s Group, the corporate parent of the local Brendan’s Irish Pub & Restaurant chain, he’s managed the chain’s growth from its flagship Camarillo location in 2011 to three locations, helped bring in $7.5 million in revenue and nearly 200 employees within two years. He also plans to scale the chain to 10 locations throughout the Tri-counties by 2015.
A native of Camarillo, Calif., Mulchay’s deep-rooted interest in small business stems from his family, which includes a line of successful entrepreneurs in the Ventura County area. On the heels of the successful acquisition of his media company, Socialmash Media, in January 2011, Mulchay was hired by Brendan’s and tasked with developing scalable operations for its flagship location and future locations to come. Within four months, Mulchay was promoted to chief operating officer.
In 2011, Mulchay was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year award by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce for his business accomplishments.
"Shawn is a dynamic young man with a true entrepreneurial spirit. He is forward- thinking, community-focused and ambitious - all refreshing qualities to see and the reason he was the chamber's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011," said Jennifer Wells, CEO of Camarillo Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his desire to apprehend the fundamentals of business, Mulchay is also driven to get involved in politics. In 2007, while a student at CSU Channel Islands, he was selected by CSU Channel Islands President Richard P. Rush to serve in the prominent and highly respected Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy, where he studied under Leon Panetta, former director of the CIA and Secretary of Defense. He later completed a three-month internship in Washington D.C. with the office of Hon. Congressman John Campbell (CA-45).
“Nothing has come easy. It takes a lot of passion and determination,” Mulchay said. “I’m confident the work and achievements I’m accruing today will help me better serve my community throughout the future, whether it be in the private or public arena.”
Mulchay graduated from CSU Channel Islands in 2008 with a bachelor’s of science in business administration. During the course of his studies, Mulchay was an avid participant in on-campus student activities, such as the Associated Students Inc., Student Union Planning Committee, Rotaract Club, Student Fee Committee and more. He was also the managing editor of the Channel Islands View Student Newspaper, as well as the founder and editor-in-chief of the university’s The Nautical Yearbook.
“Shawn has always represented as a talented leader and entrepreneur at CSU Channel Islands and Brendan’s,” said Tania Garcia, director of alumni relations at CSU Channel Islands. “Shawn has ambition and understands sincere relationship building. He has grown so fast within his current position at Brendan’s and has become well-known in Ventura County because he is very driven and believes in getting the job done.”
Currently, Mulchay is in pursuit of a master’s degree in business administration at CSU Channel Islands’ prestigious Martin V. School of Business.
