Jeep finally comments on the rumors of a new Wrangler pickup truck model, promising its release by 2016.
Online PR News – 30-March-2013 – National City, CA – After rumors spread across the world, Jeep President Mike Manley confirmed the existence of a Jeep Wrangler pickup truck. Jeep plans to unveil the new Wrangler pickup truck by 2015 or 2016 along with a larger version of the Grand Cherokee SUV.
This comes as big news for the Jeep family following its great year of sales in 2012. The past year of sales topped the company’s record in 1999 with more than 701,000 vehicles delivered and 68 percent sold in the US. However, Jeep is still considering how the brand wants to approach the new body style.
"I am convinced there is a market," said Manley. "I think if we were going to do it, the appropriate time would be the model changeover of Wrangler."
The new Wrangler pickup truck will not be designed as a competitor to the Ram pickups. Instead, it has been described as a “lifestyle pickup” featuring the same style and attracting the same customers as the regular Jeep Wrangler model.
While the talks of a Wrangler pickup truck began at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show with the reveal of the Jeep Gladiator concept, Manley states that the best time to begin the sale of a Wrangler pickup would be the model refresh date expected to be in 2016.
