Online PR News – 30-March-2013 – Petaling Jaya, Selangor – Hilton Worldwide is the first US hotel chain to conclude a management contract in Myanmar following the easing of sanctions last year. Business and high end tourist travelers can now look forward to the new 300-room Hilton Yangon that will also be the first Hilton Hotels & Resorts branded hotel in the country. It is scheduled to open in 2014. Andrew Clough senior vice president development Middle East & Asia Pacific Hilton Worldwide said following the social and economic reforms the country has made over the past year, Myanmar has seen visitor arrivals grow by 45.1% compared to the previous year. He added that this agreement is a significant milestone for Hilton group as it represents both Hilton Worldwide’s and the Hilton brand’s entry into Myanmar.
In Yangon, to date, there is a total number of four 5 star hotels; Parkroyal Hotel Yangon, Sedona Hotel Yangon, The Governor's Residence Yangon and The Strand Yangon. It is forecasted that Hilton's branding and global reputation will help to boost more international business travelers’ arrival to Yangon which is the business capital for Myanmar.
One of the reasons Myanmar will soon see even more development in terms of hotels is the increasing traffic of businessmen flying into Myanmar to negotiate business, attend meetings, events and even hold workshops. This is brought by the business and entry visa on arrival offered to citizens of 48 countries at both Yangon International Airport and Mandalay International Airport. Unfortunately, tourists are not eligible to apply for the visa on arrival, and to avoid complications, are advised to apply for a Myanmar visa prior arrival.
