Presidents and CEOs of design firms nationwide gathered in New York, May 13 – May 16, 2010, to celebrate 25 years of professional collaboration and strategic design and business insight at the Association of Professional Design Firms’ annual meeting.

The focus of this year’s APDF meeting was to help design firms tune-in and adapt to the changing economic landscape and address the dichotomy between creative and operational excellence.
The ON! Approach session, with Stefan Sagmeister, renowned graphic designer, explored how to take passion for design and translate it to the bottom line. The ON! Procurement session, with Blair Enns, founder of Win Without Pricing, and John Gleason, founder of A Better View, discussed spec work and pricing pressures surrounding design procurement.
The ON! Design Thinking session, with David Dunne, award-winning professor specializing in marketing strategy, branding and advertising, at Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, looked at the future of design ownership and the evolution of design thinking.
Helen Walters, Editor, Innovation and Design at Bloomberg BusinessWeek, shared her perspective on the evolution of media and how the design industry could leverage that progression to drive positive change during the ON! Storytelling session.
