Twelve teams and 24 drivers in the GP2, as well as 24 drivers and ten teams in GP3 will use KONI®’s dampers and spares
Online PR News – 15-May-2010 – – ITT Corporation announced today that it will supply its KONI® shock absorbers as original equipment on all of the GP2 and GP3 race cars in 2010, with its race dampers 2612, 2812 and 2822 series. Twelve teams and 24 drivers in the GP2, as well as 24 drivers and ten teams in GP3 will use KONI®’s dampers and spares.
When the race car manufacturer Dallara was selected to design and produce the cars for GP2 in 2004, KONI® – as its preferred multi-year supplier – was asked for a suitable product: a new 4-way adjustable damper. New chassis were then developed for 2008 GP2 series and for the new GP3 series, born in 2009 as a GP2 runner-up: KONI always remained as the standard damper provider.
Frits Altorf, KONI®’s product manager for racing, said: “GP3 and GP2 will give young upcoming drivers a chance to further develop their driving skills and hopefully jump to the very top of motor racing: Formula 1. Many current Formula 1 racers already found their roots in these series and many will surely follow. All of them, therefore, got acquainted with racing KONI’s dampers, as these were selected as being the standard damper from the start. We are proud to supply such a preferred and well known product amongst the greatest race drivers ever.”
The product’s performance, especially in harsh conditions, and quality/performance price ratio, are the main reasons for KONI®’s presence in such challenging races. Eleven GP2 races and 9 GP3 races will be held between mid May and mid November, on 13 of the main European circuits.
