The Nissan-crafted Taxi of Tomorrow has just undergone a milestone evaluation on the streets of Manhattan.
Online PR News – 08-March-2013 – Mount Kisco, NY – In 2011, Nissan was selected to completely redesign the New York City taxi. The Japanese automaker will be supplying a large number of these taxis to help the city reduce emissions and provide more comfort and safety for taxi passengers.
According to Jim Harte Nissan, over 600,000 New Yorkers and tourists hail a cab in the Big Apple every year. As a result, these new taxis will generate a large amount of income for all stakeholders. To satisfy these stakeholders, Nissan has been hosting and will continue to host several official milestone meetings. At each meeting, Nissan displays the current status of the project. The design is discussed to further refine the vehicles before they are put into service later this year.
The first meeting of this kind was held at Nissan’s proving grounds in Arizona last autumn. NYC officials were in attendance. Last month marked the second and most recent milestone meeting, which took place in Manhattan. At this meeting, officials evaluated the Taxi of Tomorrow on the actual busy Manhattan streets it will one day be serving.
Commissioner David Yassky, New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, stated, “You feel like the space is designed for you, the passenger, as opposed to the taxis that we have today where it is kind of a thrown together feel.”
Following the meeting, Nissan stated that the automaker plans to further refine the Taxi of Tomorrow before it hits the streets this autumn. For more information on the Taxi of Tomorrow, fans can visit Jim Harte Nissan, which is located in Mount Kisco, New York.
