Carleton College takes the lead at the Rolex Classic Track Meet

Online PR News – 11-May-2010 – – This year’s Rolex Classic track meet has been won by the Carleton College after Jon Concannon’s triumph was chosen as the winning event from the meet. The championship was taking place between two cross-town rivals St. Olaf College and Carleton College. The Rolex championship was packed with several hurdles which were braved by both the teams however Carleton College maintained their dominance by earning a score of 1-2-3 over the Olaf College during the 110 meter hurdles, the 400 meter hurdles as well as in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Out of all the events, Jon Concannon’s triumph was chosen as the winning event in the 400 meters hurdles.
The excitement quotient of the meet was raised by several notches after an amusing event got added to the list of events- the 4x100 meter throwers relay. Carleton College made an entry with about 900 pounds of running power together with the top players like Andrew Scheider-Adams (Fy./Ellsworth, Wis.), Aaron Maurer (Jr./Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), Ben Langfeldt (So./Dennison, Minn. /Northfield) and Brad Eckelmann (Jr./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) recording for a three and a half second victory. With a power packed performance the four players from the Carleton College made sure that the Knights do not even register an entry into the regular 4x100 relay following baton malfunctions.
Aaron Maurer witnessed his best shot in the entire season with the hammer throw of 29.93 meters during the meet while Schneider-Adams also set a personal record with a throw of 12.39m in the shot put which also landed him on the fourth position in the javelin throw. The relay round saw him grabbing the baton and running down the second runner of St. Olaf College. The event also witnessed Brad Eckelmann giving his season’s best during the shot put who also became a part of the javelin, giving an extension to the Carleton relay lead. However, Ben Landfeldt leaned back just in time, giving the team its much deserved victory.
The 110 meters hurdle event was won by Ty Martin together with Michael Austin. Jon Concannon set a personal record of 57.77 seconds and bagged the 11th rank in conference while registering his lead in the 400 meters hurdles. Jon Concannon was followed by Kyle Burkhardt who ranked second in the meet and Michael Austin who remained third. The 3000 meters steeplechase was won by John Davis who registered a fifth position in the MIAC. Chas Karch and Andy Hardt who were playing for the first time in the Rolex Classic Track Meet closely followed John Davis and laid their claim on the next two spots.
The high jump round was won by Jameson Siegert while CJ Dale remained the winner in the long jump. Mark Skoglund ended up setting a record of 43.93 meters whereas the second best height’s record was set by Evan Franco with 4.27 meters which also contributed to the victory of Pole Vault. The players will hit the grounds once again in the upcoming MIAC Outdoor Track as well as in the Field Championships slated to take place on May 14 and 15.
