Bing Unveils 5 Apps for Office 365 and Office 2013

Bing in a continuous effort to improve Office experience for Office 365 and Microsoft Office 2013 users introduced 5 brand new apps. These apps are designed to make Bing available for all Microsoft products viz.

These apps are designed to make Bing available for all Microsoft products viz. Windows 8 and Windows phone along with XBOX device. Other than what Microsoft says about these apps, it looks like the giant is trying to dissuade third-party app developers from gaining share into its booty. Bing Maps App: Map Read Your Data

The new Bing Maps app, currently in version 1.2, is designed for Office Excel 365 and 2013. The app lets an Excel 2013 user map read the data from a given location in a column and plot it on a default Bing map or pie chart to visualize the information for miscellaneous purposes. The visualization tool inserts a default map in your Excel spreadsheet and lets you select location data from a given column or multiple columns to plot it and look like a map, pie chart, or circles. If not needed, the user can disable it and re-enable it when needed. To disable the app, click Insert (on Excel spreadsheet)> click Apps for Office> Manage My Apps> click Action> Hide. The app has been well received by Excel users due to its usefulness in office-related works.

Bing Finance App (Beta)

This app, currently in version 1.1, lets a user create a stock portfolio table in an Excel spreadsheet from the location data given in a column or multiple columns. Users can add stock symbols and use from the available wide range of data columns to add stocks from different companies, price charts, current price, and news among other things to track and maintain their investment portfolios. The app lets users choose to draw either a Data Pivot or News Pivot portfolio table to add and organize their stock data from different companies without skipping a quote or news. The famous investment research and resource provider namely Morningstar provides the investment data for the app users. A user might have to wait to get updated stock quotes as they are late by 15 minutes.

• Capability of creating and updating a stock portfolio table
• Choose from Data pivot table or News pivot table types to respectively create a custom data-oriented table or create a news-based table using the default range of columns

Bing News Search App

Currently in version 1.1, Bing’s News Search is a task-pane app, which allows users to search for news as well as related videos and images from inside a Word document and mark favorite search results for viewing or inserting into it. Select a text from the document and click Search to look for related news, weather information, and videos. Bing, the Microsoft search engine provides data from a wide-ranging collection of news, weather information, videos, and other miscellaneous information for search results. Users can disable the default search settings and setup custom search for their needs. The app is not only good but has bad sides too. It is capable of reading and editing a user’s document who inserts a search result and also accessing his information from his corporate network or the Internet.
