Titus-Will Ford is proud to announce that Ford Motor Company is developing the next generation of zero-emission cars jointly with Nissan and Daimler
Online PR News – 08-February-2013 – Tacoma, WA – Ford Motor Company will be partnering with Daimler AG and Nissan Motor Company to bring an affordable hydrogen car to the mass market. Titus-Will Ford of Tacoma will be keeping tabs on this new technology, keeping local customers informed of the research progress via their blog, http://fordtacomawa.tituswillfordsales.com, and social media updates.
Hydrogen cars, technically called fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), are the next step in zero-emission technology. Hydrogen is stored in a high-pressure tank in the car. A chemical reaction occurs between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air that creates electricity. This electricity is used to power the car, while water vapor and heat are the only by-products released from this reaction.
There are two main purposes for the partnership. The first is to share the investment and production cost in order to develop an affordable FCEV that can be commercially sold.
“Working together will significantly help speed this technology to market at a more affordable cost to our customers. We will all benefit from this relationship as the resulting solution will be better than any one company working alone,” said Raj Nair, group VP of Global Product Development, Ford Motor Company.
Research and development for the FCEVs will be conducted jointly by all three companies around the globe. This will further decrease the cost for consumers by allowing the cost of research and production to be shared equally among the three companies. Also, global specifications and component standards will be standard across all models allowing the production of more cars at a lower cost.
The second goal of this collaboration is to encourage increased development of hydrogen refueling stations by suppliers, policymakers and the industry. In order for these FCEVs to be mass marketed, the appropriate infrastructure must be in place for consumers to utilize them at their full potential.
Between the three companies, 100,000 FCEVs are expected to be produced starting in 2017. Each company will use the common fuel cell stack and fuel cell system but will design a unique model for themselves.
