Ford models earn 2013 5-Year Cost to Own Awards from Kelley Blue Book

Experts at KBB annually evaluate new vehicles to find those that will cost consumers the least over the first five years of ownership. They take into consideration not only the starting price but the cost of fuel, financing and insurance costs, and maintenance and repairs as well. All of the criteria is plugged into a comprehensive formula that predicts the cars, trucks and SUVs that will cost consumers the least to own.
Awards are given to the top performers in each of the 22 different market segments as well as the top two overall brands. Three Ford vehicles picked up individual awards – the 2013 Ford Mustang, 2013 Ford Mustang GT and 2013 Ford Explorer.
The 2013 Mustang topped the competition in the High-Performance Car segment with a project five-year cost of ownership of $52,896. KBB said, “Complementing its aggressive appearance and sport-tuned suspension, the 2013 Ford Mustang GT comes on even stronger thanks to a power boost that bumps output of its 5.0-liter V8 to a stout 420 horsepower.”
The 2013 Explorer drove to the top of the Full-Size SUV/Crossover category with a five-year cost to own of $48,959. “With an available 350-horsepower EcoBoost V6, an advanced 4-wheel-drive system and comfortable seating for seven, the Ford Explorer can go just about anywhere an adventurous family would want to go,” noted KBB.
The 2013 Mustang GT was declared the Sports Car category winner with a five-year cost to own of $39,992. “With an expanded standard-feature set that now includes HID headlamps, an efficient 306-horsepower V6 and a host of styling upgrades that further bolster its curb appeal, the 2013 Ford Mustang – America’s original pony car – defines the term ‘affordable fun,’” explained KBB.
