Online PR News – 02-February-2013 – Orange, CA – Triathlon Business International (TBI), an industry organization dedicated to promoting the sport and the business of triathlon, today announced the addition of father/son team Don Catlin M.D. and Oliver Catlin to the Rules, Regulations and Drug Policies panel as part of TBI’s 3rd annual conference Feb. 10 – 12 in San Diego. They will join panel members Michellie Jones, professional triathlete and world champion, and Charlie Patten, owner of Revolution3 Triathlon. The panel will be moderated by Mike Reilly, vice president of Active Network and “Voice of Ironman.”

Dr. Catlin is one of the founders of modern drug-testing in sport, and has overseen testing for performance-enhancing drugs at the three most recent Olympic Games held in the United States beginning with the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. He has also overseen testing for the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Major League Baseball’s (MLB) minor leagues and the National Football League (NFL). He developed the drug identification techniques currently in use at the Olympic, professional and collegiate levels. In 1982, Dr. Catlin founded the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory, the first anti-doping lab in the United States and now the world's largest testing facility of performance-enhancing drugs. He was the lab's director for 25 years. Dr. Catlin has published more than 120 research articles including the discovery of the first designer steroid – tetrahydrogestrinone, detection of erythropoietin and breakthroughs in the detection of testosterone and other endogenous steroids. He is a member of the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee and currently serves as the CEO of the Los Angeles-based NGO Anti-Doping Research, Inc., which was founded in 2005 to bolster efforts to uncover new drugs being used illegally by competitors and develop the tests to detect them. It also advocates for and establishes programs to encourage athletes at all levels not to use performance-enhancing drugs. In addition, Dr. Catlin co-founded with his son Oliver, the Anti-Doping Sciences Institute (ADSI) and Banned Substances Control Group (BSCG).

Oliver Catlin has been working in the arena of anti-doping, drugs in sport and dietary supplements for almost a decade. Catlin started his career at the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory as the Director of Finance and Administration. While there he helped oversee the drug testing programs for USADA/USOC, NFL, MLB, NCAA, the U.S. Military and other major organizations. After leaving the UCLA lab, Catlin worked with this father and other colleagues in the performance-enhancing drugs arena to create what is now known as the Catlin Consortium, made up of ADSI, BSCG, Anti-Doping Research, Inc. and its Support Clean Sport (SCS) initiative. Catlin is president of ADSI and BSCG, as well as executive director of SCS, an organization that combines education and outreach by top experts with commitments from athletes to stay clean, and active participation of coaches, parents, alumni and sport enthusiasts.
