Wine and spirits guru Mark Spivak has launched a new radio podcast called Quench!
Online PR News – 02-February-2013 – Boca Raton, Florida – Wine and spirits guru and award-winning writer Mark Spivak has returned to the airwaves with his new podcast, Quench!
Spivak, the author of Iconic Spirits: An Intoxicating History (Lyons Press, 2012), spent twelve years as the host of Uncorked! Radio on WXEL-FM, the former NPR affiliate for the Palm Beaches. Quench! is a weekly podcast available on iTunes or www.webtalkradio.net.
“It’s basically what I’ve always done---entertaining and amusing commentary on the beverage universe,” said Spivak, “along with interviews of people who have compelling stories and a good sense of humor.”
How did an Italian porn star become a winemaker? Why did two individuals spend $1300 on a bottle of beer on eBay? Why is half the wine sold in the U.S. controlled by just three companies? These are some of the questions Spivak explores on Bizarre Beverage News, the segment that opens the program. Initial guests have included Jim Rutledge, master distiller at Four Roses in Kentucky; Davin de Kergommeaux, the world’s foremost expert on Canadian whisky; Andrew McNamara, a Master Sommelier and wine educator, and Brian Ellison, proprietor of Death’s Door Spirits in Wisconsin.
Spivak is fond of describing Quench! as “silly beverage radio,” and advises listeners to “apply it liberally to the ears.” “Ultimately, the important thing is not how much you know about a subject,” he observes, “but how well you can communicate that knowledge to people in a fun and understandable way.”
Mark Spivak has been reviewing wine and spirits since 1992. He is the former wine writer for the Palm Beach Post, and has been Wine & Spirits Editor for the Palm Beach Media Group since 2000. His work has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Robb Report, Men’s Journal, Art & Antiques, the Continental and Ritz-Carlton magazines, Arizona Highways and Newsmax. His book, Iconic Spirits: An Intoxicating History, explores the untold stories behind twelve spirits that changed the world and forged the cocktail culture.
Quench! is available as a free download, and can be listened to on your computer, iPod or smart phone.
