According to the Building Performance Institute, where Dolphin Insulation team members are trained to be building analysts,, the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, or better known as the fiscal cliff deal, signed on January 3, provided an extension of the energy tax credit for homeowners seeking energy efficiency improvements. Homeowners can claim a maximum $500.00 tax credit in covering costs of materials.

In order to qualify, a homeowner must have not applied for these tax credits in previous years. Also, any energy-efficient improvements have to be in place by the end of 2013. Some of the improvements that may qualify include:

Air Sealing - Sealing cracks in the building shell and ducts to reduce infiltration and heat loss in a manner consistent with updated 2009 specifications.

Other energy efficient home improvements that may qualify according to published reports are window replacement, natural gas and propane furnaces, central air conditioning units and electric heat pumps. More information can be found here; target="_blank" class="highlight_link">>
