IMI addresses Talent Crisis Management for NGOs

International Management Institute (IMI), India’s first corporate sponsored business school held a round table conference on attracting and retaining talent in NGOs.

Online PR News – 01-February-2013 – New Delhi – International Management Institute (IMI), India’s first corporate sponsored business school held a round table conference on attracting and retaining talent in NGOs. The entire discussion was around how to overcome the challenge of retaining youngsters and working professionals, who come with a ‘temporary job’ mindset in Non-Government Organizations. This requires attention because those who join yet don’t match up to their commitment for long, end up contributing with zero growth to the set-up. The conference’s initiative was to drive people and their commitment towards becoming a part of the development/social sector organizations and was presided over by an esteemed panel of prominent representatives from various NGOs across the country.

Studies and many interviews have shown that this is the case with many NGOs, especially not-so-large organizations. Many such organizations are dealing with a similar crisis. To counteract the problem, the academia is supporting the NGOs by running field related courses like MSW, MA. Social Work, MA Social Entrepreneurship etc. The only challenge is in the work front, whether students taking up such courses are proving to be of any help professionally and who all are actually coming forward to do the grass-root level work.

Dr. Pritam Singh, Director General of IMI said, “This conference was targeted at encouraging people to know more about the social activities, NGO(s) are performing and be a part of this noble contribution. Not only will this help raise the bar of the country’s poor socio-economic status but also enhance manpower for growing work in the NGO(s). It is very important for all of us to contribute to the society in whatever way we can and IMI is glad to have been part of this endeavour.”

The IMI round table conference not only facilitated topics for talent crisis but also posed questions about resourcing, developing and engaging talent for NGOs for a longer period. This was aimed at overcoming the inadequate efforts of NGOs.
