YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS DEVELOP NEW SURF/SKATE BRAND

Southern California high school juniors, Andrew Boukather and Cole Friedman are the creative minds behind Spruce Clothing, a new surf/skate line. The brand was developed by the two young men, who have been friends since pre-school, and was launched in May. It was quickly picked up by the Orange County, California surf chain,Jack’s Surfboards and is currently available in all seven of their locations and online at http://www.sprucementality.com
The idea for the line came from Boukather and Friedman’s interest in developing a brand that reflected their unique style. Both have been interested in clothing from a young age and developed the brand based on their interest in the art, music and culture of Southern California. “We live the Southern California lifestyle, “said Boukather,”so we understand what people our age do and what they want to wear.”The Spruce line incorporates clean, classic design, which is inspired by both the poster art of the 1940’s and 50’s and the Southern California surf, skate and music culture the two young men live every day. The linecurrently includes t-shirts, baseball T’s, sweatshirts and a windbreaker. “We are the market”, said Friedman,” and Spruce is different from the other Southern California surf/skate brands because we have a different, younger perspective.”
All of the designs for the line were developed by Friedman, a talented graphic artist who has received numerous design awards. Friedman has also interned for top surf/skate labels and his designs have been used in their seasonal lines. Boukather, an avid skater and surfer, is responsible for marketing and communications for the company. He has developed the website, sprucementality.com, where the line can be purchased and also keeps a constant stream of company news and photographs on sitessuch as,Facebook, the Spruce blog, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr.
