The new Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year
Online PR News – 25-January-2013 – Leesburg – Cadillac recently unveiled their brand-new Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid at the 2013 North American International Auto Show located in Detroit. The 2014 ELR is similar to the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, only with the luxurious features and top-class technology that Cadillac vehicles have to offer. Introduced as the Converj concept car in 2009, the ELR has been anxiously awaited by auto enthusiasts around the world.
“ELR is an unprecedented combination of luxury, advanced engineering and progressive design in a coupe that is both sporty and environmentally friendly,” stated Cadillac global vice president, Bob Ferguson. “This is a pivotal moment in Cadillac’s history, as we continue our product-driven expansion.”
While not all features and performance standards have been released by Cadillac yet, the powertrain will be similar to the Volt’s 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that powers the T-shaped 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Cadillac promises that the performance of the ELR will be far more engaging than the Volt’s, with several new features to increase efficiency and the driving experience.
The all-new ELR will feature the industry-leading Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) technology that provides a full driving range that exceeds 300 miles. The ELR will be able to drive solely using the battery pack for about 35 miles before using the supporting engine. EREV’s exclusive Regen on Demand driving mode allows the driver to temporarily regenerate energy from the ELR’s momentum into electricity that is stored in the battery pack for later use. This new EREV technology is changing hybrid standards, allowing the ELR to require no gasoline without any emissions for most daily commutes.
“ELR marks a fresh, even surprising new dimension of Cadillac,” Ferguson continued. “An additional aspect of the ELR’s appeal will be exclusivity. It will be a specialized offering produced in limited numbers.”
This sleek, sporty plug-in hybrid coupe will begin production in late 2013 and then shipped to dealerships in 2014.
