Environmental Benefits of Online Learning Highlighted During 40th Anniversary of Earth Day
Online PR News – 22-April-2010 – – Denver, CO – April 21, 2010 - As a fully online public high school, Provost Academy Colorado ushers in the latest trend of “green” schools that leave a very small carbon footprint due to a nearly complete elimination of traditional school staples such as paper waste, school transportation and energy costs. This added and often unseen benefit of online education presents an extraordinary cost-effective opportunity to help the environment, while providing students a quality education.
“With an online school there is no traffic, no gas being consumed by cars or buses to and from school,” said Audie Rubin, Executive Director of Provost Academy. “Further, there is less overall environmental impact since the school is not required to maintain classrooms which require lighting, heating and cooling, and maintenance.”
Provost Academy is a state-authorized public online school that is free of charge to residents of Colorado and provides high school students a unique learning experience, which combines a rigorous curriculum with a high-touch approach.
“Communication between teachers, students and parents is conducted completely online, as well as the administration of tests, homework and daily lessons,” Rubin said. “When you consider the sheer amount of paper used within a high school during a typical day, coupled with the cost of disposing of the waste, the costs are monumental.”
Depending on the level of online interaction a student and/or parent requests, “One of the only sheets of paper a student may receive from the Provost Academy may be the high school diploma they receive at the completion of their studies,” Rubin said.
Provost Academy will participate in two Earth Day activities. School representatives will be available to provide information about enrollment and to answer parent or student questions.
The Earth Day events are:
Pikes Peak Earth Day, Colorado Springs
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Boulder EarthFest, Boulder
11:00 am to 4:00 pm
