Titus-Will Goes Green: Ford’s Recycling Achievements
01/09/2013

More than 120 million pounds of old car material have been kept from littering landfills through Ford’s recycling program.

Online PR News – 09-January-2013 – Tacoma, WA – Environmental sustainability has always been a primary concern for Ford. When working in the automotive industry, it is an important consideration for designers as good stewards to the planet. To help reduce its carbon footprint, Ford has invested in vehicles such as the C-MAX Hybrid and the C-MAX Energi, as well as the Fusion Hybrid and the Focus Electric. By introducing these electric and hybrid vehicles, Ford is hoping to inspire customers to consider cars that do not leave such a negative impact on Mother Nature. However, Ford’s outreach to nature goes beyond the vehicles it produces. Ford’s pledge to environmental sustainability has been an ongoing project for years.

In fact, about a decade ago, Ford initiated a program aimed at processing and reusing damaged vehicle components that would otherwise be dumped into landfills. Over the last ten or so years, Ford has recycled roughly 120 million pounds of these used car components. To put this figure into practical use, 120 million pounds of these materials comes out to about 30,000 new cars that are now populating the roadways instead of rotting in the ground in pieces.

The most recent additions to what Ford will recycle are headlights and bumpers. In just the last two years alone, Ford has collected over 62,000 bumpers and 26,000 headlights. With the inclusion of headlights and bumpers, over 85% of a typical car can now be recycled, sending only 15% to a landfill.

Ford has been dedicated to recycling for a long time. Back in 2001, Ford founded a biomaterials and plastics research team. Since its inception, the team has accomplished several goals: using soy-based foam in car seats and deflector shields, making plastic reinforcement materials out of coconut husks, and even looking into plastic bottles as a possible provider of seating material.

Titus-Will Ford encourages everyone to get involved in the mission to recycle and keep the earth clean. It can be as simple as starting to recycle at home, or as dedicated as stopping by Titus-Will Ford (http://tituswillford.com) today and getting an all-new hybrid or electric vehicle.
