Powai runs to remain in the Pink of health

An initiative by Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital to spread wellness and good health for the citizens of Mumbai

Online PR News – 08-January-2013 – Mumbai, January 08, 2013 – Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, in association with the Rotary Club of Mumbai, LAKERS hosted its second season of marathon – ‘Run Powai Run’ for the running enthusiasts and the fitness conscious Mumbaikars. In the wee hours of morning more than 2700 runners gathered at the Kensington SEZ Hiranandani Gardens to participate in this wellness initiative.

A survey, conducted by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) International, revealed that most of the Mumbaikars do not have ample time to follow a fitness regime as they spend nine hours a day on an average at their workplace. There has also been a significant rise in the number of cardiac related and other lifestyle diseases in Mumbai.

With over 3000 participants, the run started from Kensington SEZ Hiranandani Gardens, Powai covering a distance of 10 kms giving the best possible running experience to each participant with its unique terrain.

This run is an initiative by Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital to raise awareness about the benefits of exercise and with a hope to turn Mumbai into a healthier city.
Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Managing Director of the Hiranandani Group, also supported the cause by running 4 km. Explaining the concept of wellness and health while managing work and personal life, he said, “We should make an effort to convert our daily activities into exercise opportunities like walking down to your closest grocery shop for household shopping, taking the stairs instead of the elevator.”

Sharing his thoughts on the initiative, Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani said, “This is the second year of Run Powai Run. I appreciate the initiative taken by Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital. I do believe that wellness is not just about taking precautions on diseases but about living a healthy life.”

Dr Sujit Chatterjee, CEO, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital said, “Erratic lifestyle in a busy city like Mumbai has led to people suffering from various kinds of lifestyle diseases. Most of the population employed with corporate have a sedentary job which leads to obesity and stress. This in turn raises other life threatening diseases. Exercise is a simple solution to prevent these lifestyle diseases. This is the second season of Run Powai Run and we are happy to see the number of people supporting this cause with us yet again.”

The event was supported by several corporates such as FedEx, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Kellogg’s, Birla Sun Life insurance, Colgate, Ranbaxy and many more.
