Online PR News – 25-February-2009 – – The Board of Trimega Laboratories, an international supplier of substance misuse testing products, is pleased to announce that Professor Dr Fritz Pragst of the University of Berlin, an award-winning forensic toxicologist and the founding father of hair alcohol testing (HAT), has joined the company as a non-executive director.

A holder of 10 patents, Professor Pragst has published more than 170 scientific papers on toxicology in national and international journals. He is a board member of the Society of Hair Testing, winner of the Alan Curry Award (International Association of Forensic Toxicologists) and ‘Guest Scientist’ at The University Institute of Legal Medicine, University Hospital Charité in Berlin.

His appointment means Trimega, established in London in 2005, is able to offer a brand new standard of hair alcohol testing that promises to be the most accurate form of available.

The new service, ‘Hair Alcohol Biography’, combines the two most commonly accepted methods of testing. These are: FAEE (fatty acid ethyl esters), which Pragst has pioneered and for which Trimega won Best Use of Technology in the 2008 Barclays-sponsored Startups Awards, and EtG (ethyl glucuronide). Used in isolation, EtG in hair leads to more false negative results than FAEE but, by combining the two together, Trimega has developed a new, winning formula.

According to Professor Pragst: “These two quite different types of testing complement each other in an optimum way and the accuracy of the combined results increases beyond all doubt.”

Pragst’s appointment was sealed after a formal Trimega Laboratories inspection that affirmed its position as a world-leading commercial provider of testing alcohol in hair, not least in circumstances where child protection is an issue.

Avi Lasarow, Managing Director of Trimega, commented:
“We welcome Professor Pragst on board and look forward to further developing the contribution his technology has already made to child protection over the past few years.”
