Civil litigation and criminal defense attorney Kresta Daly was invited to join the Advisory Task Force of the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration.
Online PR News – 08-January-2013 – Sacramento, California – Kresta Daly, a civil litigation and criminal defense attorney at the Sacramento, CA law firm Barth Tozer & Daly LLP, has been invited to join the Advisory Task Force of the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration.
Ms. Daly will serve with several other Commission members on the expert Advisory Task Force to develop a strategy adequately addressing the needs of people with mental health illnesses or disabilities who face immigration proceedings.
Current immigration proceedings are handled as a civil proceeding, which does not require that the defendant be provided a lawyer. Those who cannot afford a lawyer must navigate the proceedings on their own, which can be prohibitively difficult for people with a mental illness or disability.
Ms. Daly will join the American Bar Association’s efforts to address and correct this problem, working throughout the year to research and identify best practices for this type of case. Ms. Daly and the other members of the Advisory Task Force will strive to ensure that individuals facing immigration proceedings receive full due process rights and just treatment.
