2009’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition will include pro poker player Vanessa Rousso in a bikini posing for PokerStars.
Online PR News – 24-February-2009 – – Professional Poker player, Vanessa Rousso, landed in this issue of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, strutting in a bikini.
Rousso said "It was a great opportunity for poker in general and for me in particular,” who was visiting family before heading out to Los Angeles for her next tournament. "You could say it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
The idea of a pro poker player modeling for this prestigious magazine was made by her sponsors PokerStars.net considering Roussos long blonde hair and features which is widely known among poker aficionados and fans.
The photo shoot for Sports Illustrated was held in the Bahamas on Jan 4th 2009 but it is not part of the editorial section of the magazine but part of PokerStars sponsored 'custom content', which is basically an advertisement page for PokerStars but in a SI type shoot.
To everyone’s surprise, Roussos image in the issue is far from her poker player look which usually consists of a cap, big sunglasses, earphones and loose fitted clothing.
After seeing the copy of SI on Wednesday she said “it was the opportunity to try something new, and I think it was done very tastefully,"
She competed in her first major tournament which was the WSOP (World Series of Poker) in New Orleans. Vanessa finished 7th. That same summer she came in first in the Palms Summer Series $200 buy-in.
In 2006 she has taken 7th place at the World Poker Tour championship event and 8th place in the 2006 World Series of Poker $5,000 event.
Vanessa, being a PokerStars team member participated in the World Championship of Online Poker Main Event 2007, coming in at 3rd place until a disqualification of one of the winners upgraded her place to runner-up with prize money of over $700,000.
Rousso is dedicated to poker as she is dedicated to studying. She has also been photographed for Maxim magazine and taught Forbes magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Women to play poker.
She has written articles on game theory for American Poker Player magazine as she majored in economics, with a specialization in game theory and verbalizes poker strategy so well that the World Poker Tour Boot Camp often invites her as a guest instructor. She also has her own poker instruction course coming to South Florida soon.
The SI swimsuit issue sells about 4.5 million copies, compared to the weekly's usual 3.1 million.
