Chandigarh, 30 November 2012: One of the largest schools in India, Oakridge International, is opening its fifth campus in the tricity in Greater Mohali.
Promoted by Hyderabad-based People Combine Initiatives Limited (PCIL), Oakridge International has two schools in Hyderabad, one each in Bangalore and Vishakhapatnam, with the latest being in Mohali.
Oakridge is the brainchild of India’s eminent educationist Shomie Das who headed the Physics department in Gordonstoun School in Scotland, was the Principal of Mayo College in Ajmer, headmaster at the Lawrence School in Sanawar and that of the Doon School in Dehradun, besides having been the tutor to His Royal Highness Prince Charles in 1963.
Speaking to the media, Shomie Das said that Oakridge curriculum is designed to prepare the children during their formative years to learn to be curious, creative, communicative and a knack for making choices.
Education system in the country is following the age-old pattern of preparing mediocre and clerks for the British Raj whereas in the rapidly changing times, India requires next generation of thinkers and leaders who can contribute to their community, the country and the world, he added.
The learning begins from the school, Shomie Das reiterated, and the reason that Oakridge would be providing not teacher-driven but children-centric learning to create a new generation which is confident to keep pace with the changes around them, and are able to confidently contribute to the society.
Oakridge follows a unique approach to education which encourages enquiry and takes learning beyond the classrooms, encouraging experiential assimilation of knowledge through through field trips, guest lectures and internships in companies, said Prof. Y.V. Rajasekar Babu, managing director of PCIL.
He informed that Oakridge would be imparting education following the world-class Swiss curriculum of International Baccalaureate, along with University of Cambridge International Examination (CIE) in tandem with that of CBSE from Nursery through Grade XII.
Even the unique English Lab at Oakridge International School would help children master the language by loving it rather than just reading it, he added.
The School will be formally inaugurated by His Excellency Shri Shivraj V. Patil, Governor of Punjab & Administrator UT Chandigarh on 1st December.
The admissions would open in a months time, and the session would start from April next.
