Deadline Fast Approaching for Young Artist Competition

Highlands Art Gallery, in historic Chester, New Jersey, is sponsoring their first Regional Art Talent Search to support and promote young artists, between 18 & 25, by offering them the prospect of gaining some regional exposure.

Online PR News – 02-April-2010 – – Highlands Art Gallery, in historic Chester, New Jersey is sponsoring their first Regional Art Talent Search to be held the weekend of Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18th.

Highlands Art Gallery Director, Cheryl Macdowall says the gallery wants to support and promote young artists, between 18 & 25, by offering them the prospect of gaining some regional exposure.

Young artist applicants can submit up to 4 images of representational paintings of their own concept and design in either oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastel. The deadline for submitting artwork is April 6, 2010. There is a $25 entry fee for up to two images. Each additional image is at a cost of $15 each.

The competition will consist of up to 50 paintings that have been juried into the Exhibit. The final paintings will be judged by Mary Birmingham, Curator of the Hunterdon Art Museum.

All the artwork will be displayed at the Highlands Art Gallery and available for purchase beginning Friday, April 16th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sunday from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

On Friday, April 16th during the Opening Reception from 6:00 – 9:00pm, the prize winners will be announced. Best in Show is $500; Second Prize - $250; and Third Prize is $100.

There will be also be a People’s Choice Award with the winner receiving $50 and a trophy. The Peoples Choice Award will be determined by the most votes given by gallery visitors during the competition weekend. That award will be announced Sunday, April 18th at 4:00pm.

While the competition is open to all young adults between 18 & 25, students from colleges, universities and art schools in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania are submitting their finest works, according to Macdowall.
