Online PR News – 01-April-2010 – – Chicago, IL (March 31) – The College of Applied Health Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago is pleased to introduce its newly redesigned web-site, located at http://healthinformatics.uic.edu. The new web-site provides a comprehensive guide to the online health informatics and Health Information Management degree programs available at UIC, and serves as a professional resource for health information management practitioners, as well as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinicians.

UIC has been a leader in the development of online health informatics education so it is only natural that our web-site reflects our role in this evolving field.

"We're very excited about the new web-site," says Dr. Larry Pawola, Program Director of Health Informatics and Interim Head of the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences. "UIC has been a leader in the development of online health informatics education, so it is only natural that our web-site reflects our role in this evolving field."

The new web-site features program information for experienced professionals who want to complete an advanced degree online in health informatics and/or health information management. In addition, the site features distinct resources, such as career opportunities for prospective students who are already trained in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, health information management, business or information technology and want to extend their academic credentials to include health information management and health informatics coursework.

"Today's health care professionals interact regularly with electronic medical records, and the digital storage of medical information enhances all facets of health care delivery,” says Dr. Pawola. In addition, Pawola says, "there is a renewed focus on both protecting the privacy of digitally stored medical information, and guaranteeing the patient’s ability of patients to transfer complete medical information from provider to provider. These changes have all occurred in a very short time." Pawola says the rapid pace of change in health informatics has created a definite and growing need for professionals who are trained to create, store, manage and maintain critical health information data. "We've found that the online learning environment is the best, most efficient and most effective way to deliver health informatics education to working professionals. Our goal was to build a website that was both a resource for students and health informatics professionals."
