This November, the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show will be featuring Chevrolet’s all-new 2014 Spark EV
Online PR News – 22-November-2012 – Richmond, VA – Chevrolet has recently announced that they are currently developing an all-electric Chevrolet Spark EV that will be released later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Although little information has been released by Chevy, the 2014 Spark EV will be available at Chevrolet dealerships sometime next year.
The 2014 Spark EV will be powered by an oil-cooled, permanent magnet motor that produces at least 130 horsepower and about 400 lb-ft. of torque. It will also have 0-60 acceleration in only eight seconds. Not only with the EV be one of the quickest in its segment, but it will also feature an industry-first SAE combo charger allowing DC Fast Charging of up to 80 percent in only 20 minutes.
“When our team set out to develop the propulsion system for Spark EV, we knew we had to provide surprising fun-to-drive acceleration with maximum efficiency,” explained Chuck Russell, Spark EV Chief Engineer. “What we think customers will enjoy most is how fun Spark EV is to drive; it’s seamless and power is available at every stage of the drive. This will help us to provide an exciting option for those customers who are looking for an EV that’s as much fun to drive as it is environmentally responsible.”
The all-new Spark EV’s motor and drive unit is set to be manufactured at GM’s transmission plan in White Marsh, MD beginning early 2013. This is the first time a U.S. auto manufacturer has built both drive unit and electric motor for a modern electric vehicle.
“Spark EV is the latest demonstration of our growing expertise in electric motor and battery technologies,” said Larry Nitz, executive director of GM’s global electrification engineering team. “Expertise we will need as we grow our portfolio of electric vehicles to address the needs of our global customers.”
