The new generation of Chevy Cruze for 2015 will have updated styling and a new platform while remaining American made.
Online PR News – 09-November-2012 – Santa Paula, CA – The Chevy Cruze has quickly become a favorite for American drivers since it was first introduced to the public back in 2010. The Cruze offered many features that were previously unavailable to drivers in the C-segment. With its superior build quality, upscale interior with a comfortable and spacious cabin, modern and aggressive styling, and excellent fuel economy, the Cruze was a major step up from the popular Cobalt model it replaced. This comfortable, four-door sedan is one of GM’s best selling and most popular compact cars ever and when compared to other vehicles in the segment it shines. Now, after three years on the market, the Cruze is scheduled for a design update in 2015 along with a new platform. Also of note to American buyers, the Cruze will continue its production in the Lordstown, OH GM plant keeping it “made in the USA”.
As the Cruze is just as popular in other markets, it is scheduled to be redesigned for 2015 on a new global platform known as the D2XX. This flexible platform is also expected to underpin vehicles like the Astra, Equinox, and the Volt as well here in the states and abroad. Building upon this new and improved platform, GM plans to produce an updated interior with more cargo and storage space. Modern styling both inside and out will keep the Cruze fresh and up-to-date for new drivers while improvements all around will boost overall quality. GM also expects that the changes will help keep weight down, and improve fuel economy on the highway as well as in the city.
If any insight can be gleamed from the recent redesign of the Impala, the Cruze’s older and larger sibling, styling changes should result in a much more muscular and chiseled appearance all around. Squared design elements, larger front grilles, LED fog and accent lighting, along with functional air dams can be expected if the next Cruze is really going to be as modern and leading edge as GM expects. Sources also state that the Cruze will be offered in long awaited coupe and hatchback body styles along with the traditional, four-door sedan setup. These additional options would give drivers more freedom to choose a Cruze that fits their lifestyle.
Dates for production of the next generation Cruze are still unreleased, but GM has already put $220 Million towards preparing the plants for action. According to the traditional release schedule, a 2015 Cruze should be available at dealerships by around the second half of 2014.
