Fifty full-size pickup trucks were donated to the Red Cross last week by Chevrolet to help with the hurricane relief effort.
Online PR News – 10-November-2012 – Dayton, Ohio – Last week saw one of the most destructive hurricanes in recent history hit the East Coast of the United States, leaving billions of dollars worth of damage in its wake. Hurricane Sandy devastated numerous towns and cities along the east coast, including New York City and coastal towns in New Jersey. The American Red Cross has stepped up to help victims of the ferocious storm, and General Motors has donated 50 Silverado trucks to help with cleanup.
OnStar, a subsidiary of GM, has also contributed to the relief effort by providing each Silverado with 300 OnStar Hands-Free Calling minutes, and three months of other services such as turn-by-turn navigation. GM is also donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross from its company foundation. This money will go towards providing food and shelter for disaster victims and emergency workers, as well as helping provide emotional support for those affected by Hurricane Sandy earlier this week.
General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said, “"It is during disasters like this that we all need to pull together as a country and Chevrolet has a role in that. Making these vehicles available quickly where they can do the most good is something we can do right now."
Neal Litvack, Chief Development Officer of the American Red Cross, commented on GM’s donations, saying, "The impact of Hurricane Sandy is being assessed up and down the East Coast and even further west, and the road to recovery will be long for many families. GM's generous donation of vehicles and the GM Foundation's donation of finances will help the American Red Cross to respond with shelter, food and care, aiding affected residents now and after the storm, as they move toward recovery."
