Nissan GT Academy is returning for a second season on November 1 on SPIKE.
Online PR News – 08-November-2012 – Mt. Kisco, NY – Nissan GT Academy is coming back for another exhilarating ride. Nissan North America, in collaboration with both Sony Computer Entertainment America and Polyphony Digital, officially announced that the first of six episodes of the critically acclaimed TV show will air on SPIKE TV this Thursday, November 1 at 11:30 p.m. On the Monday following each airdate, the episodes will be made available on Nissan’s YouTube channel, and then one week from the original airdate on MTV2.
The show takes avid videogamers and turns them into professional racers. Of the 400,000 registered Gran Turismo online gamers, only the top 32 were chosen to meet at Comic-Con, held in San Diego, back in July. The decision was made after three long months of intense online gaming. At Comic-Con, a top sixteen was chosen after two days of virtual racing. Those sixteen were then taken to the famous Silverstone Racing complex in England, where they endured a severe boot camp that combined both physical and psychological challenges, as well as on-track driving in an array of Nissan performance vehicles.
Ex-NFL player, Dhani Jones, will host the six-episode series that will record every hair-raising, breathtaking moment of the drama and the driving of the six-week-long challenge. By the end of the six weeks, all but one driver will have been eliminated. That skilled driver will remain in the U.K. and be trained to be a professional racer upon earning his international competition license.
Of Nissan’s involvement, Jon Brancheau, VP Marketing, Nissan North America, said, “GT Academy is a program that we are really pleased to be a part of. It reinforces our values of excitement, innovation and performance above all else, while giving 16 people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams—and for one of them to potentially change their lives for good.”
