Grubbs Nissan Helps Save the Trees in Texas

Grubbs Nissan is participating in EVs for Trees to help replant the trees that were destroyed by the extreme Texas weather of recent.

Online PR News – 07-November-2012 – Dallas, Texas – Grubbs Nissan is giving the people of Texas the chance to help rebuild Texas from the ground up—literally. Partnering with eVgo, Grubbs Nissan and other dealerships of North Texas and Houston are helping to raise money to help replant the trees that have been destroyed since 2011 by the extreme weather conditions of Texas.

Because of recent weather conditions, Texas has suffered over 500 million trees statewide. That means that roughly ten percent of the state’s trees have been destroyed in a matter of two years. The extreme drought of 2011, which was one of the worst in recorded history, is largely to blame. Combine that with the destructive wildfires that decimated the trees of Possum Kingdom Lake and Bastrop’s treasured Lone Pines, as well as the 22 tornadoes that attacked the DFW Metroplex in April of this year, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

In response, eVgo, a part of NRG Energy Inc., which is a Fortune 500 company, decided to team up with local tree planting organizations, retail energy providers, and selected auto dealerships. The dealerships, such as Grubbs Nissan, come in to play with their electric vehicles. Grubbs provide an incentive for the public to test drive electric vehicles. For every test drive of the Nissan LEAF, Grubbs Nissan will donate $25 to the North Texas tree foundation. Other Nissan dealers will do the same for their respective locations, and Mitsubishis will also follow suit with the i-Miev. In addition, test drivers who are customers of Green Mountain Energy or Reliant (electrical providers) will receive an extra $25 donation from the respective company.

Why partner EVs and trees together? Arun Banskota, president of eVgo, had the answer: “EVs are fun to drive because of their silent ride, continuous torque and precise handling. Also, EVs deliver great economic, health and environmental benefits by providing significantly reduced fueling and maintenance costs as well as zero tailpipe emissions. The EVs for Trees program adds the benefit of making a difference in your local community. Electric cars and trees are a perfect fit. Both EVs and trees improve air quality in our cities.”

The program lasts through December 4, so don’t waste any time. Hurry to Grubbs Nissan today to test drive the all-new LEAF and save a few trees while you’re at it!
