America’s best video gamers have a chance to become a professional racing driver with the Nissan GT Academy Competition.
Online PR News – 01-November-2012 – Greenville, MS – Nissan GT Academy is a competition like no other. The idea behind this unique reality experience is to turn one video gamer into a professional racecar driver. This competition is a collaboration between Nissan North America and Sony Computer Entertainment American. The drama of this real-life adventure will be documented through episodes airing on SPIKE TV and the Nissan YouTube channel.
"GT Academy is a program that we are really pleased to be a part of. It reinforces our values of excitement, innovation and performance above all else, while giving 16 people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams – and for one of them to potentially change their lives for good," said Jon Brancheau, VP Marketing, Nissan North America.
And what’s a racing competition without some top-of-line race cars? The Nissan 370Z and GT-R will be used to test drivers’ skills on the track. For the competition, a 2009 Z Cup GT Academy Version of the 370Z will be used. This full throttle machine boasts a 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 332 horsepower. Modifications for racing this coupe include a roll cage, NISMO rear differential, racing brake pads, and a Recaro pro racer seat.
The Nissan GT Academy Competition will also feature a 2009 GT-R GT Academy Track Car. With a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, this machine can produce 480 horsepower. This beast can easily go from 0 to 60 in under three seconds. The GT-R tops out at around 190 miles per hour.
All the excitement begins Thursday, November 1st on SPIKE TV.
