NY Sharks Come Together for Entrepreneurial Community

New York, NY: SmartMoney Entrepreneurs ( (SME), following on the success of ABC’s hit TV Show Shark Tank, is bringing “the shark” Daymond John, Brian Cohen, and other major investors together to support entrepreneurs across the nation with an evening investor event and live webcast. Designed to demonstrate to participants how crowdfunding works, a unique aspect of this event is the way that SME, via Indiegogo—a funding platform—is bringing the live broadcast to a wider audience.

“How To Get Funding From A Shark,” will take place in Manhattan on November 27, 2012, and will offer an insider’s view into what investors look for in a fundable startup. “Investors like Daymond John and Brian Cohen (who was the first investor in Pinterest) use their own capital to fund startups. These are the type of investors you want in your business because they aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty,” says Jeremy Andrews, Founder/CEO of SME—a broker/dealer crowdfunding platform—host of the event. “Many VC’s (Venture Capitalists) and investment funds use OPM (Other People’s Money) to Invest in a company and don’t always bring that personal touch.”

SME is also demonstrating the use of crowdfunding, via Indiegogo, to help bring the live event greater exposure and increase participation on a national level. “We received many requests from entrepreneurs and other interested individuals who want to attend the event, but will not be in NYC the evening of the event,” says David Brown-Landron, Co-Founder of SmartMoney Entrepreneurs. “Offering a crowdfunded webcast made sense for us, as it gives people a chance to participate, get involved in the event, and experience the entrepreneurial community.” Indiegogo backers can get involved for as little as $5, or about the price of a Starbucks coffee. The Indiegogo campaign runs through October 29.

Tickets to “How To Get Funding From A Shark,” start at $35 for the webcast, and the live event will be held at AlleyNYC, 500 7th Ave., 17th Floor, New York, NY 10018, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 6-10 p.m., EST. More information about the live event and webcast, entering the business pitch competition, and sponsorship opportunities can be found on the SmartMoney Entrepreneurs website
