Leslie Murphy, CPA, is the recipient of the Instituteâ€™s 2012 Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service
Online PR News – 26-October-2012 – TROY, MICHIGAN – TROY, MI â€“ October 24, 2012 â€“ The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has announced that Leslie Murphy, CPA, is the recipient of the Instituteâ€™s 2012 Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service. The Gold Medal is the highest award granted by the AICPA and is given to CPAs who have made major contributions to the CPA profession. Murphy is the past chair of the AICPA Board Of Directors and has also served as the chair of the Michigan Association of CPAs (MACPA). â€śLeslie has generously given her time and expertise to so many people in the accounting profession in Michigan and across the nation,â€ť said Peggy Dzierzawski, CAE, President and CEO of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA). â€śShe is a strong believer in giving back, and no one is more deserving of this honor.â€ť
Murphy received the award at the fall meeting of the AICPA governing Council.â€¨â€śLeslie has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the accounting profession throughout her distinguished career,â€ť said Kathy Eddy, chair of the AICPAâ€™s awards committee and former AICPA chair. â€śLeslie has helped shape the profession for the better by sharing her knowledge, skills and abilities through her varied professional activities.â€ťâ€¨
From 2005-2006, Murphy served as chair of the AICPA, which now represents approximately 386,000 members worldwide. She began serving on the board in 2001 and was involved at the policy level as the profession responded to a changing regulatory environment for the next six years. Murphy, a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, has continued her service as a member of the Instituteâ€™s governing Council and the Assurance Services Executive Committee, with a focus on Enterprise Risk Management and Strategic Planning for Future Assurance. Murphy was named the American Womanâ€™s Society of CPAs 2007 Woman CPA of the Year, inducted into the Advisory Board Hall of Fame in 2011 and in 2008 received the Women of Achievement & Courage Award from the Michigan Womenâ€™s Foundation.
Murphy is chair of the board of directors and executive committee of the St. Johnâ€™s Providence Health System, in addition to serving on the United Way for Southeastern Michiganâ€™s Board of Directors, the Covenant House of Michigan Board of Directors, the VSP Board of Directors and the Kelly Services Corporate Board of Directors. Murphy currently serves as president and CEO of Murphy Consulting, Inc. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., and has honorary doctorates from Walsh College, Troy, Mich. and Cleary University, Howell, Mich.
