Online PR News – 26-October-2012 – London – On 23rd October 2012, the St Pancras Renaissance (Marriott) Hotel in London was the setting for the Rakuten Play.com Expo 2012. FusePump were one of the sponsors at this one-day event that brought together a variety of businesses looking to make the most out of the Rakuten Play.com online marketplace.
The day involved various talks from industry experts as well as networking opportunities, panel discussions and a prize-giving. Sam Hodges, Product Manager at FusePump, explains why FusePump were keen to get involved.
“FusePump attended the Rakuten Play.com Expo 2012 to talk directly to some of the retailers who are already listed on the marketplace and find out first hand their experience with marketplaces. We wanted to see what we could do to make their marketplace experience better and easier. As well as this we wanted to speak with some of the key players at Play.com and Rakuten to find out what their focus was going forward and to see how we could work more closely with them in the future.”
Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of Rakuten, began the Expo with a talk on the ethos of Rakuten. He was followed by various Play.com executives who outlined their product strategy and the development of the new platform.
“A particular session of interest,” continues Sam, “was given by Chris Barlow, Head of Merchant Services and Max from the ECC team. They outlined how the new backend system and storefronts will work, and how our clients can benefit from the new functionality.”
Overall FusePump found the day both enjoyable and informative. “I think we got some good information on the direction of Play.com,” concludes Sam, “We also found out which of our existing clients could benefit from the approach that they are taking in the future – a radical and interesting departure from what they, or any other marketplace were doing before.”
