National Geographic picks Sri Lanka as world's 2nd best destination

An island where you 'get absolutely everything' from undiscovered sandy beaches to culture and history to amazing wildlife.

Online PR News – 25-March-2010 – – The National Geographic Channel in an exclusive report has categorized Sri Lanka as the second best place to visit.

The commentators, Times Travel Writer Jil Crawshow and Editor of Wandertrust Magazine describe Sri Lanka as 'exotic' and has 'absolutely everything!'

Referring to Marco Polo's description of his 'favourite island', as the 'Jade Pendant in the Indian Ocean', the commentators state Sri Lanka is exactly that.

They state that Sri Lanka is arguably the world's greatest island for beaches...with hundreds of miles of amazing unspoilt sandy beaches and coral marine life.

'You don't get to number two without some must-see sights', they add. Sri Lanka has a wonderful history and culture in a really small space and state that Sigiriya, a fifth century fortress perched atop a rock,is a place not to be missed with its spectacular views.

Sri Lankan wildlife is a 'major highlight', they refer to the availability of elephants and leopards in the National Parks, and make a special reference to the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary. Pinnawala is now the largest herd in captivity with 65 elephants.

If you like delicious spicy curries then Sri Lanka is the place to go, they say.

"You go to Sri Lanka for a little bit of everything, you couldn't be bored in a million years!
