Online PR News – 23-October-2012 – San Diego, CALIF—October 23, 2012 – On November 6, California voters will decide whether to pass Proposition 35, the Californians Against Sexual Exploitation Act, or the CASE ACT. Whatever the vote, the trafficking of girls and women needs immediate and effective solutions. On November 12, One Love Encinitas, a San Diego-based network of yoga teachers, will host a fundraiser benefiting organizations that re-educate girls victimized by sex trafficking. Changemaker Communications will participate by teaching a writing workshop.
One Love Encinitas sees community building and social change as cornerstones to its mission. This year, the network is supporting Off the Mat Into the World’s (OTM) Global Seva Challenge, which is raising funds for three local organizations in India: Made by Survivors, Kolkata Sanveed and Sanlaap. OTM is a grassroots movement that fuses yoga with civic engagement and conscious activism.
It’s nearly impossible to peg precise numbers on sex trafficking, which occurs everywhere, often goes unreported and is enmeshed with crime rings. Several organizations, citing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, put the black market in human trafficking at $32 billion annually, which follows the illegal drug trade of roughly $100 billion.
“None of us can escape the issue of human trafficking, which is not always visible but is nevertheless very much alive, even right here in North County San Diego,” said Audrey Sarquilla, co-founder of One Love Encinitas. “As such, it affects all of us consciously. The great news is that by working together, we can improve the lives of girls and women everywhere.”
Called “Write Your Heart Out: A Workshop in Courageous Truth-Telling,” the fundraising event is open to anyone who makes a minimum donation of $20. Locally, participants will meet as a group (Encinitas, CA, location to be disclosed upon sign-up). Elsewhere, participants will call in (teleseminar number to be disclosed prior to the workshop). People at all levels of writing experience are invited to attend the workshop, which will cover topics such as:
• owning our voices as creative forces for good
• playing with language
• revealing why we really write
• working through any and all writing struggles
“Writing is one of the most powerful ways to make a positive difference—for ourselves and others,” said Kimberlyn David, Storyteller-in-Chief at Changemaker Communications. “Changemaker is passionate about helping people and organizations make a bigger impact through writing and sharing stories. We’re honored to be of service to girls and women by volunteering for this important fundraiser.”
Write Your Heart Out: A Workshop in Courageous Truth-Telling is scheduled for Monday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Those who’d like to sign up can do so by: 1. clicking the "Donate Now" button at www.oneloveencinitas.org and 2. selecting One Love Encinitas as the Seva Participant when making their donations to Off the Mat Into the World.
