General Motors (GM) recently announced that it will begin production on its all-new extended range electric vehicle, the Cadillac ELR. Lancaster Motor Company is excited at the opportunity to offer a car that redefines style not only for electric vehicles, but all automobiles.

“The ELR will be in a class by itself, further proof of our commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology,” said GM North America President, Mark Reuss. “People will instantly recognize it as a Cadillac by its distinctive, signature look and true-to-concept exterior design.”

The ELR is styled after the Cadillac Converj Concept that turned heads at the North American International Auto Show in 2009. The sleek, two-door coupe delivers the elegance that only Cadillac can. The Cadillac ELR will feature the same extended range electric powertrain as GM’s revolutionary Chevrolet Volt, and will be produced in the same Detroit-Hamtramck GM plant as the Volt. GM has announced plans to invest $35 million in the manufacturing plant in order to upgrade equipment and ready it for the increased production. The plant is also responsible for making the 2014 Chevy Impala.

The news of GM’s plans to produce the Cadillac ELR comes on the heels of its announcement to redesign the Cadillac Escalade for the 2014 model year. In fact, it has been rumored that both will debut at 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Both are examples of Cadillac’s efforts to refresh its image and offer drivers the most advanced and technological luxury vehicles possible.

“ELR will contribute mightily to the brand momentum of Cadillac, as it continues a big product push in the global luxury market,” Reuss said.
