Atlanta Nutritionist and licensed Sports Dietitian Ilana Katz announced today that she was chosen as a panelist to be a nutrition resource to athletes competing in the Winter Olympics. Which of Ilana Katz's Olympic nutrition tips will work for you?
Online PR News – 25-March-2010 – – Atlanta, GA -- Atlanta Nutritionist and licensed Sports Dietitian Ilana Katz announced today that she was chosen as a panelist to be a nutrition resource to athletes competing in the Winter Olympics.
The panel provides a platform for athletes from all over the world to ask a Sports Dietitian nutrition questions.
Ilana Katz says that “Many of the athlete’s questions had to do with being fed the same old food at the hostels where they were staying and the challenge of having access to sports appropriate food.”
Staying with your nutrition plan while travelling is always a challenge. During the competition season and certainly during the Olympics, athletes are living out of a suitcase. U.S. Nordic combined athlete, Johnny Spillane, recalled the Nordic Combined World Cup in Chaux-Neuve, France in mid-January where athletes were served boiled green beans, plain pasta and chicken for 12 unappetizing meals.
"Other options for athletes on the road include protein powder to shake up in a bottle of skim milk or orange juice, and packets of oatmeal," says Ilana Katz, MS, RD, CSSD, owner of Optimal Nutrition for Life in Atlanta. "Being self-sufficient while traveling is a good strategy so that when you miss a meal or don't have another option, you'll still get the fuel you need."
Ilana Katz offers Sports Nutrition Tips for Travelling Athletes at all levels, not just for Olympians! Olympic athletes have many “behind the scenes” challenges in addition to their intense level of training and competition. These tips may come in handy one day when you travel, whether as an Olympic athlete, an elite athlete, a recreational athlete, or even just as a vacationer who does not want to blow your weight loss goals just because you are traveling.
