New Essex Social Networking Website Launched

A new social networking website has been launched just for people in Essex at

Online PR News – 24-March-2010 – – The site is free to join and aims to provide a place for people in Essex to stay in touch with their local friends, meet new people, join local groups, and share their favourite things about Essex.

Unlike the larger international social networking sites like Facebook, is all about Essex and aims to give users a more relevant experience, otherwise known as geo-social networking.

The site also has a number of unique features not available on other social sites. For example, as well as using to network with your friends and create groups, you can also add and share details of all your favourite Essex places and events.

The way the site connects with users is also different. When you log in to you are greeted with your very own interactive networking map of Essex, personalised with your favourite locations. The map also displays suggested content matched to your interests.

The developers of the site, Your Web Place, feel that will have broader appeal than other forms of social networking. “Our experience of launching geo-social networking sites in other regions has shown that we attract a far broader range of users than you would expect, especially older web users who find our form of localised social networking more accessible, relevant and in some ways reassuring” commented Peter Parsons from Your Web Place.

Parsons also feels that these differences mean there is room for sites like to exist alongside larger sites like Facebook and Myspace, commenting that “we’ve found that our users are either new to social networking and wouldn’t normally go near the larger sites, or they are existing networkers looking for a more local experience alongside their normal social networking”.

Because of the more localised scope of its members, the site has a wide range of security measures built in to protect users. For example a user’s location is only shown on a map to their accepted friends, and even then their locations are approximated. Users can also opt out of appearing on any maps. The site also features extensive guides to online safety and security, especially for younger users, and their parents or carers.

Local businesses can also sign up to for free, and then purchase featured adverts and premium profiles at low cost. is the latest in a series of locally focused social networking websites being launched by Your Web Place, following on from the success of their first site,
