Custom molder and contract manufacturer, MackMedical/Mack Molding, has added three electric injection molding machines to better serve the orthopedic segment of its medical manufacturing business.
Online PR News – 25-March-2010 – – ARLINGTON, Vt. (March 24, 2010) – Custom molder and contract manufacturer, MackMedical/Mack Molding, has ordered three electric injection molding machines from Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd. All three are 110-ton, 3.4 oz. high-precision machines from Toshiba’s EC Servo Electric Series, and will be housed at the company’s headquarters plant (Arlington, Vt.) to serve the medical market.
“This new equipment purchase represents another investment in our medical manufacturing strategy, which we originally embarked upon 10 years ago, and today represents a full third of our business,” says Jeff Somple, president of Mack’s Northern Operations. “These presses are being brought on line to support the rapidly growing orthopedic segment of that business.”
Mack chose electric presses for energy-efficiency and precise process control. “We anticipate about 60 percent less energy consumption from these machines over their equivalent hydraulic counterparts,” says Marc Colety, plant manager (Cavendish, Vt.), who orchestrated the order.
This purchase takes Mack’s press total to 123 machines, which range from 28 to 4000 tons of clamp force with barrel sizes from .6 to 800 ounces. The new presses are expected to be delivered and operational by mid-March.
